”It’s times like these I am glad you deal with the people Amelia..”
“What do you mean?”
”Nothing at all Darling, just these special snowflakes sometimes need more attention than others… But you are used to that by now…”
“Well let me see then Lydia, if I am going to be taking care of her I want to know what’s wrong with her!”
Patient Name: Teagan Brooks
Date of Enrollment: January 15, 2006
Before Whispering Willows: New York City was no place to raise a child like Teagan Brooke’s, all this young girl wanted to do was spend time with her borderline large family. That was near impossible though as her father was always off in some other city, state, country, caring for everyone and anyone else, but the people that needed him most. It was an interesting dynamic her mother and father had, her mother being one of the woman that claimed a doctor was a waste of time and couldn’t fix anything that a warm bowl of soup and some love could fix anyway, and her father being a doctor himself. It worked somehow, both being fairly loving parents despite the fact her father had always used to tell her stories of the patients that walked in, causing her and her three younger siblings to scare. In turn, her mother always used to tell her that he was lying, and nothing bad would happen to her. She would like to have believed her mother.
Growing up in the big city was never really Teagan’s dream. She wanted something else from the time she was a young child, tired of the hustle and bustle she was sorrounded by. So when she turned 10, she had finally had it, a small student cruise for young children. She couldn’t believe it at the time, she was going to travel for once, live for once. Leave behind all of her worries. Her parents had taken care of the paperwork and it was only a month away, she was almost out of there. Then, the day she departed, her mother gained a slight cough. After reassurance that it was just a cold, Teagan agreed to leave, and started her journey around the world.
Still being the Momma’s girl she was, she called home everyday, checking to see how everyone was holding up without her to hold them together. Yet, everytime she called, her mother seemed to sound more drawn out, more tired, as if everything was an uphill battle. Everytime Teagan asked though her mother snapped, claiming that she was worrying herself over nothing. Everything was fine. Not being one to question her mother’s judgement in the past she would simply brush it off, not wanting to start anything with one of the people she loved.
The summer had past and it was time to head back home, a place that Teagan had been missing more than ever in the past few weeks. But when she got home, she soon found, home was no longer where the heart was. Her Mother had passed away, the night before Teagan returned from living her dream, by a rare change of events that took a common cold to a whole new level. The level that killed her. Her father never being around, never noticed, he never saw what was happening. And now the only one who ever really accepted her for who she was, was gone. Burried six feet under and leaving her to be the mother her family no longer had. It was then that Teagan realized something that would change her life. All of her father’s stories were real, she could die at any moment. The danger was everywhere and anywhere, death was walking in her footsteps and one day it would race past her, it would already be too late… And Teagan didn’t want to take that risk.
Now: Unable to really live again, Teagan is in constant awareness of her own physical condition. Every ache or pain could be something, anything could be all she needed to end her life. Her life is consumed by the fear that there could be something wrong to the point that now something is. Teagan can’t even trully trust her own judgement anymore, requiring daily checkups to make sure she isn’t close to death. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knows that she is overreacting, but she doesn’t care, she has to be there for her family. But what she doesn’t realize, is because of this, she never can be.
”She seems a bit high-maintenance, don’t you think?”
”Since when were people not high maintenance around here?”
"True… I was just thinking…"
”You should really stop doing that, dear.”
Things to Know::
Teagan is: Teagan is extremely cautious and analytical when it comes to any decision or plan, wanting to make sure there is no chance of failure before stepping into something. She is fairly nice, though the smallest of things can make her snap back into that icy cold place once more. She is extremely traditional and family oriented, quick to trust her life in someone, but also quick to question judgement in most cases. When having an episode it is best not to stop her, just smile and nod slowly.
